Issue 6

By Siha Park

A wallflower asking to dance

Leaning against the wall, bending your body

Support is all you’re willing to take

After all, you’ve managed alone so far

It’s not like anyone’s taking your job

Weekly you are filled to the brim

Forced into a shape, you are unwilling

No one asked you what you wanted

But if they asked, would you answer?

The piles of clothes inside of you

Are a reminder of your own grime

However you are a neglected soul waiting

For the day that you are cleansed

But all you receive is more laundry

Even though you never asked for it

Involuntarily taken advantage of, you silently cry

Your sorrow remains unheard to ignorant ears

The beautiful pink basket that you are

It’s sole purpose is to transport clothes

Maybe in another life you could’ve been

More than a wallflower asking to dance

Serena Park is a high school student who writes poetry and creates visual art in the quiet corners of her day. When she’s not working on a piece, she’s usually listening to music—especially rock, with a special place in her heart for Kurt Cobain.
