By Linda M. Crate

a sky together

one morning

a pink sunrise

peeked in through

my windows,

found me

and i thought of you;

so many years have

parted us now

more than we ever

knew each other—

yet i come back

as there's always

something there to remind me,

i was too much

of a coward to admit how

i truly felt;

worried you'd push me

away if you knew i had fallen

in love with you—

but how could i not?

you woke in me the magic

and dreaming i once thought dead,

you taught me there was

beauty in my scars,

and you were the brightest shining

sun i've ever known;

and i was a moon without any

sun to dance across her sky—

i had hoped we could share a sky together.

moments like these

day break

opened

in an assortment

of colors,

renewing light

where the darkness dwelt

at night;

the sun looked like a cooking

egg yolk suspended in

songs of carnelian, gold, ruby,

amethyst, and rose;

fizzy was

sniffing at the grass smelling

all the scents a dog could

possibly find—

the moon and i watched

minute black birds winging against

the clouds,

indecisive as to where to go

flit back and forth;

as i pondered if perhaps

it was the beauty of moments

like these that made life worth living.

so i will never be forgotten

on the sunset boat tour

for my birthday,

i think one of my favorite

pictures is of myself, my mother,

and my sister painted

gold and orange by the sun;

illuminated by a beautiful

sunset i will never forget—

my hair danced in the wind,

every curl like the water waves except

my waves beat against the sky;

and my dress fanned

in the breeze—

a beautiful day full of memories

with my mother, my gran, and my sister;

an experience i will always

treasure because in the end we

all become stories,

so i am eager to be a good part

of some adventures and memories

so i will never be forgotten.
